Project Name: Initiative to promote Afghan Civil Society (I-PACS) Location: 18 Provinces of Afghanistan, directly in 3 central provinces and through other partners in 15 provinces Duration: Six years Start Date: 2005 End Date: 2010 Services: Capacity Building Trainings, Technical Assistance and Awarding small grants Beneficiaries: 100 Civil Society Organizations CSOs ) including national NGOs, Associations , Foundations, and local shuras, Community Development Council, in East , South East , North East and Central regions of Afghanistan: Partner Organizations: within the I-PACS net work there are four other partner organizations with AWEC contributing with the implementation of project in 4 different region of Afghanistan as shown in below map. Afghan Women Educational Center (AWEC) has the leading role of the project within the I-PACS net work. 1. Afghan Women Resource Center (AWRC) 2. Education Center for Women (ECW) 3. Basic Education & Employable Skill Training (BEST) 4. The Liaison Office (TLO) There are 4 other partner organizations within the network who are implementing the project in 16 other province of West, South West, and North West which are led by Afghan Civil Society Forum Organization.

Project goal: The goal of the project is to increase the role and viability of civil society in Afghanistan by providing capacity building training, and providing small grants to civil society organizations showing potential to be sustainable and effective organizations. Project objective: To support institutional development of AWEC and its four partner organizations and build capacity of AWEC and 100 target civil society organizations (CSO’s) in 17th provinces of Afghanistan. Major Activities: Since beginning 2005AWEC is implementing partner of Initiative to Promote Afghan Civil Society (I-PACS) and conducted a series of training and trained its target CSOs staff in deferent fields.• Project design, Proposal Writing • Advocacy • Human Rights • Civil Society and Community • Human Resource Management, and General Administration • Fund Raising • Finance and Book keeping
Part of Capacity Building intervention AWEC has started awarding small grants through re- granting process to these target CSOs to increase the capacity of civil society organizations in project implementation.
In order to provide quality technical assistance AWEC central office has opened a resource centre which is equipped by computers, internet connection and library. I-PACS and non I-PACS CSOs, male and female individuals can use the center’s services for receiving technical assistance and access to information. The four other partner organization within the network with their coverage area who is led by AWEC are as below: 1. Afghan Women Resource Center (AWRC) located in Nengarhar province AWEC supports 20 civil society organizations in Nengarhar , Laghman, Kunar, and Noorstan provinces. 2. Education Center for Poor Women and poor girls of Afghanistan (ECW) located in Kunduz AWEC supports 20 civil society organizations in Kunduz, Badakhshan, and Takhar and Baghlan provinces. 3. The Liaison Office (TLO) located in Paktya AWEC supports 20 civil society organizations from Paktya, Paktika, Khost, and Logar Provinces. 4. Basic Education and Employable Skills Development (BEST) supports 20 civil society organizations of Ghazni, Bamyan and Daikon
di provinces.
