Providing an integrated service to vulnerable women and children such as skills development, literacy, health education on general health and specific issues such as drug awareness, counselling on issues i

ncluding domestic violence and sexual abuse, informal education for children in order to reintegrate them into schools, health education, vocational training for adolescent boys and girls. This project is based on the original Center for Street Children and Women that AWEC operated in Peshawar from 1998-2004)

Support for Women in Kabul detention centre

Target participants: Women- prisoners in Kabul detention centre
Target area: Wolayat Kabul
Beneficiaries for 2003: Approximately 55 women and 38 children

Women prisoners in art workshop
  • Providing the social workers to assist women and facilitate their re- entry in society
  • Support groups and art activities to women kept in prison
  • Vocational training and literacy
  • Work with prison staff and other agencies to ensure quality of care and better management
  • Supporting of children of women who does not reside in the prison with their mothers
  • Developing of proposal for halfway house based on the needs of women exiting prison
Street and Working Children Centers, Kabul
Established November 2003
Target participants: working children
Target area: Khair Khana and Dan-e Bargh, Kabul
Beneficiaries: 300 children
Funded by: SC-UK through ECHO

Set up and operate 2 resource centres in Kabul. the centres will conduct street based outreach work to protect the rights of the working children engaged in exploitative and hazardous activities through the provision of development opportunities for child workers and their families. The centres will provide opportunities for working children and through them their families, giving them access to education, vocational skills training, life skills training, psycho social support, small scale start up business funds and to have opportunities to develop as productive and respected citizens.

Women's Community Participation, Awareness Raising and Support - Paktya

S.W.K. High School and Women's Center, Islamabad

Target participants: Afghan refugee children and women
Target area: Islamabad
Beneficiaries:

300 Students

Funded by: Self sufficient
Shahid Wali Khan (S.W.K.) junior and high school for Afghan Refugees Women's center in Islamabad as well as women's center. Provision of ongoing vocational training for graduates of high schools as well as literacy classes and other programs for women.
